Shiva Tatwa Yogshala is a Himalayan yoga school in the peaceful foothills of Budhanilkantha, on the northern edge of Kathmandu. We welcome beginners, experienced practitioners and future teachers from all over the world.
Our programs grew from one simple idea: yoga should be learned the traditional way: slowly, in small groups, close to nature and guided by teachers who live what they teach. Today that idea covers Yoga Teacher Training, healing retreats, yoga treks, Reiki, aerial yoga and singing bowl therapy.
The Meaning of Our Name“Shiva Tatwa” means the essence of Shiva, pure and peaceful awareness, and a “Yogshala” is a traditional school of yoga. Our name is our promise: a place to return to that inner calm.
Founder
CEO & FounderShiva Tatwa Yogshala
Devraj Pathak is the founder of Shiva Tatwa Yogshala. His roots are deep in the spiritual, but the place where he truly blossoms is outside, with students, on the mat.
After college he left his hometown to study further, and went on to spend years of practice in the Himalayas, in Nepal and in India, learning from many teachers before opening the doors of his own school.
Yoga is not something you finish. It is something you live, a little more each day.
To further his education he left his hometown after finishing college and went to Rishikesh, where he took up intense spiritual practice in the shadow of the Himalayas and beside the sacred Mother Ganges. In his search he visited the temples of several well-known Sadhus and Yogis, learning practices that bring a deep change in a person's spiritual growth.
Over the years he spent in the Himalayas, in Nepal and in India, he studied many styles of yoga with a wide variety of yogis. He then taught every part of yoga across Nepal and India, in a clear and practical way that stays close to Indian and Nepalese tradition, and today he shares that knowledge with students from all over the world who want to learn yoga in all its depth.
Four simple values guide every class, every retreat and every step on the trail.
Classical Hatha, Ashtanga and Vinyasa, pranayama, meditation and yogic philosophy, taught as a living Himalayan tradition, not a workout.
We keep every batch small, so each student gets personal attention, honest feedback and a teacher who knows their name.
Yoga, Reiki and sound healing work together with sattvic vegetarian food and quiet rest to restore balance from the inside out.
Clean air, forest trails and temple bells. Our Budhanilkantha ashram gives practice the stillness it deserves.
A calmer body, a clearer mind and a deeper connection to yourself.

Shiva Tatwa Yogshala is a special place! I did a retreat there for 10 days. They offer a good programme and enough time to rest. The room was very good and clean. I felt like home, everybody is very warm and welcoming. The yoga classes and sound healing were great. There is a lot of knowledge they share! I will come back if I am in Nepal again. I am very happy that I chose to come to Shiva Tatwa.
Temples, stupas, forest hills and World Heritage sites. Between classes, there is so much beauty to discover around Budhanilkantha.
Just north of central Kathmandu, below the green slopes of Shivapuri National Park. Close to the city, yet a world away from its noise.
